DIY Mother's Day Chair Planter

Right before I moved out of my parents house to go live with my husband who is a marine, I wanted to make my mom a really nice Mother's Day gift.
She spends a lot of time outside on their back porch so I thought I'd make her something she could use or see out there. I made her a planter out of a chair I found at a local church thrift store for $4.00.
The black cushion was attached with some fasteners so ripping it off was easy. I painted it white so when the paint chipped off with age and weather it would show a nice solid white instead of the green.
Orange was the color I went with because the outside of their house is a tan color and the orange would match but also stand out.
Since they live in Florida right next to the beach, shells seemed like the natural decor to dress it up a bit/ Surprisingly, I actually had to go out and buy shells. Some of them came from the collection of beach shells every Floridian has somewhere in there house and others form that collection were just too broken and plain ugly.
It also took me a few tries to find a pot that would fit inside even after careful measuring.
She coincidentally sent me an update that the flowers were still alive last week, about 6 months later.
