I made really cute wooden holiday package tags for us this year! I had wood left over from a project I plan to share soon that was taking up too much space. They can be reused for years and give any size gift a little added personal touch. Plus they were easy to make!
I drew my tag patterns on to the wood for as many tags I needed.
Because I cannot free hand to save anyone's life I made paper templates of the names, deer heads, and dogs.
I cut out all the tags with a jigsaw and drilled holes for the string in the tops.
Then, they were all given a light sanding to smooth out the edges and to allow them to better absorb the stain.
I picked a light stain that was warm at the same time. Since the wood grain on half the tags were going in different directions I decided the up and down grain would be the dogs and deer heads and the side to side grain would be the names.
I used my templates to trace on to the tags with a fine tipped Sharpie and painted them black like a silhouette.
Slade and Cabby gave me lots of encouragement and provided lots of distractions while I made these...
